“It’s not going to be easy, but with lots of fun, laughter and resilience, you will get there!”
Name: Rob Slater
When at CHS: 2010 - 2016
Current Role: Residential Support Worker
Route after CHS:
When I left school I went into hospitality to begin with but felt this wasn’t for me. I had studied Health and Social Care at 91勛圖厙 while I was at CHS so broadened my horizons into Social Care. I started working with young adults with Mental Health and Learning Disabilities first, which was extremely challenging but rewarding at the same time! This included personal care, going on trips out and supporting them with their daily life.
What does your current role entail?
I’m now a Residential Support Worker, working with Children in Care. It’s such a rewarding job! I work with children between the age of 11-17 and support them in the home. I teach them life skills whilst bringing a therapeutic approach to their lives. My career plan for the future is to become a training facilitator for the company I work for and I am just starting my journey with this as I will soon be helping deliver the LGBTQ+ training for company.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Some advice I would give to myself is that it’s not going to be easy, but with lots of fun, laughter and resilience, you will get there!
